@ELIA: Ciao, try this: Uninstall xsane sudo apt-get remove xsane Install hpoj with sudo apt-get install hpoj Install Flegita and plugin for Gimp: sudo apt-get install flegita flegita-gimp Restart your PC and try scanning. Let me know...

Hello, I have a pSC500 on ubuntu 9.04.
I have some trouble with hplip: I can’th choose the parallel port on setup menu, but the printer work perfectly, but I’m not able tu use the scanner.
Can you help me?

The HP Linux Web site (http://hpinkjet.sourceforge.net/productsmf.php) states that the backend (PPD file) for the PSC 500 is hpijs. Ubuntu Hoary has this file at /usr/share/cups/model/foomatic-ppds/HP. So, I’d start over by deleting the HP PSC 500 and selecting “New Printer” in the printer-manager GUI, selecting the HP PSC 500 (again) in the HP list, and selecting the ppd file (HP-PSC_500-hpijs.ppd.gz
) after clicking through the files to HP in the GUI. I’ve found that if one doesn’t select correctly, it’s best to begin anew. Once the ppd file is selected, Ubuntu places an unzipped copy in /etc/cups/ppd.

I heard that in the future xsane will be replaced by flegita cause Flegita is really easy to use, it works and it looks good.
