Download QuteCom 2.2 RC3 – Free VoIP SoftPhone

Formerly known as WengoPhone , QuteCom softphone is an open-source, multi-platform VoIP client that uses the open protocol SIP – – Session Initiation Protocol.

Whilst the GUI is built on Qt 4.4.0 – – QuteCom looks and feels like Gizmo5 or Skype, the Video-over-IP is based on Ffmpeg’s libavcodec. QuteCom IM is backed by libpurple 2.5.1; the core engine behind the Pidgin IM client.

Qutecom RC3 comes with the following improvements;
* Mac build fixes
* 64-bit build fixes
* libpurple related bug fixes
* fixes for plugin codec functionality
* fixes to codec negotiations (now able to work with ILBC in 30ms or 20ms modes)
* ilbc codec moved to plugin
* fixes to handle audio frames with smaller than expected sizes
* conf call fixes
* duplicate account bug fixes

You can install it on Ubuntu/Debian by adding the following repositories to your /etc/apt/sources.list

and sign in with the PPA key

From the command-line do: sudo apt-get install qutecom
Launch it from Applications -> Internet -> QuteCom

QuteCom users are free to choose their own SIP service provider. You can use standard SIP service providers such as Wengo, Gizmo5 or Sip Discount and use your credits from these services on QuteCom.
