Opera 10.60 leaves Beta, a RC is now available

Opera has released a release candidate of its next browser release, 10.60. Almost complete Opera 10.60 features support for royalty-free WebM video, HTML5 offline web apps, and Geolocation. This version is also the next major milestone for Linux users, since Opera is skipped an official 10.50 release for the Linux platform.

Mozilla, Google, Opera and others announce WebM, an open web media project

Mozilla, Google, Opera and forty other publishers such as Adobe have announced WebM, a “project dedicated to developing a high-quality, open video format for the web that is freely available to everyone.” This projects aims at setting the web free with an open alternative to the h2.64 format championed by Apple and Microsoft.

To hunt down outdated Plug-ins in Firefox, Mozilla rolled out last year the Plug-in Check feature that checked for out-of-date plug-ins for Firefox. “Outdated plug-ins are a major source of security and stability risk for web users, and some studies have put the proportion of users with older versions as high as 80%”.
