VLC 1.0 is Finally Out with Better File Support and Playback

jBrout: A cross-platform Photo Manager

For Linux and Windows XP: Ubuntu, amongst many other applications also bundles up Gnome’s photo manager, F-Spot. If for one reason or the other you’re not a fan of F-Spot — be it for Mono (polemics apart, F-Spot gets the job done) or if you don’t like the way it handles your photos then give jBrout a try.

Firefox 3.5 Hits 10 Million Downloads

Just a few day back Firefox 3.5 was officially released to the general public. It’s now been downloaded over 10 million times. It hit 10 million according to Mozilla’s real-time download tracker just before I started writing this post.

The graph show the US is leading in the downloads, as usual, but its a huge surprise to see Germany at second place with almost 1.2 million downloads with respect to third place Japan at 550 thousand downloads. More»

VirtualBox 3.0 with Gaming-Level Graphics Released

Virtualbox 3.0, “a major update introducing Symmetrical Multiprocessing (SMP) in virtual machines as well as much improved 3D support” is now available.
You were advised not to install VirtualBox 3.0 beta on a production PC, it is now time to get on your production machine VirtualBox 3.0’s OpenGL support for Windows, Linux, and Solaris guest machines, Direct3D 8/9 applications and games for Windows guests, and better synchronisation of shared folders between Linux and Windows host/guest setups.

Solang Photo Manager for GNOME/Ubuntu

Solang is an open source photo manager for the Gnome Desktop that looks very similar to the Gnome in-built F-Spot. This similarity is simply due to the use of F-Spot icons in Solang. Many have also tagged the new-born Solang as a Mono-Free version and alternative to F-Spot. Well, that its Mono-Free is true, Solang is written in C++ anf GTK+, that it’s a ported version of F-Spot has still to be confirmed. More»
